Are you looking to start your career in automotive engineering? Join McLaren Automotive as a Weight Management Intern and gain a broad range of experience and exposure to various engineering disciplines, offering you the chance to kick start an exciting career.

Responsibilities

You’ll be providing input into component design during the concept phase to ensure that our ambitious weight targets are feasible, and holding reviews with Design Engineers throughout the design process to keep those targets on track. Weight is one of the key attributes for our vehicles and it’s partly what sets us apart from the competition, so the work you’ll be doing is critical.

As well as working on the concept design stage, you’ll be producing metrics and collating data to support the various programme gateways. Keeping continuous improvement and learning from experience in mind, you’ll be investigating new technologies and developing tools and solutions that will help reduce vehicle weight.

We’re looking for you to start in July 2020, and throughout your time here you’ll be working with a range of experienced and supportive Design Engineers, Programme Managers, and Project Engineers who will all be able to support your professional development. McLaren Automotive is a growing company which means there are likely to be opportunities for you to join us on a permanent basis after your contract – in fact one of last year’s Interns has just been offered a permanent position in this team!

Requirements

We’re looking for you to be either currently studying or have finished a degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as Automotive Engineer or Aerospace Engineering. This position would suit someone who is looking for an internship during their degree studies. In terms of practical experience and knowledge, we need you to have an understanding of solid modelling and surfacing using 3D CAD – we use CATIA v5 but if you’ve used something similar like AutoCAD or Solidworks, we can get you up to speed with CATIA. You’ll also need to be able to analyse data using automations, scripting, or macros. Most importantly, we want you to be willing to learn, use your own initiative and be capable of working under pressure.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on some truly innovative and exciting products which you’ll see every day when you’re working at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking.
